This course is aimed at practitioners in the early stages of their training, it covers all the core and option units of the S/NVQ Level 2 Classroom/ Teaching Assistant`s award.
· Sections on classroom strategies give detailed guidance on the fundamental skills of managing children in the classroom and supporting children`s learning individually or in groups.
· Detailed explanation and guidance on the literacy and numeracy strategies and use of ICT is given.
· Also mirrors the CACHE Certificate for Teaching Assistants (CTA2).
· Provides support to Teaching Assistants working with older children or in out-of-school situations as well as to Classroom Assistants working in Early Years and Primary School settings.
There are no previous skills or qualifications needed to register for this study programme.
This course consists of the following units. The first four are compulsory whilst students can then choose from the remaining five units whichever will benefit their own personal circumstances.
2-1 Help with classroom resources and records
2-2 Help with the care and support of pupils
2-3 Provide support for learning activities
2 -4 Provide effective support for your colleagues
2-5 Support literacy and numberacy activities in the classroom
3-1 Contribute to the management of pupil behaviour
3-10 Support the maintenance of pupil safety and security
3-11 Contribute to the health and well-being of pupils
3-17 Support the use of ICT in the classroom
What qualification is awarded upon completion?
Every successful student will be awarded the Teaching Assistant Level 2 certificate.
How long will this course take to complete and do I have to complete within a certain time?
Students can register for this course at any time. Average completion time is approximately 180 hours overall, however you may take as long as you wish to complete. There is no time limit at all.

All students can email student support with any questions they may have from Monday to Friday 9am - 9pm.
How is my Coursework assessed?
You will be required to submit your assignments via email or alternatively you can use the freepost envelopes supplied in your study pack. (Freepost available to UK students only). Once received it will be assessed by student support and a report issued on your progress with any relevant comments. Three grades can be achieved PASS, MERIT or DISTINCTION. All assignments can be re-submitted for regrading if necessary.
Will I be required to sit an exam?
This course is completed using continual assessment allowing us to closely monitor your progress. Therefore no examination is required.
Do I need to be working with children to complete this course?
Yes! You will need access to the classroom to be able to complete certain assignments. Two or three hours per week is more than sufficient.
